While the United States and Canada cheer on men entering into Women's Sports Events, the United Kingdom takes home a win from blocking a trans cyclist - Emily Bridges - from competing in a cyclist race event this final week of March.
Formerly known by the name Zach Bridges, the cyclist would have competed against a five-time Olympic winner Laura Kenny. The UCI (Union Cyclist Internationale) deemed Zach ineligible - and as they should have. Unlike our swimmer 'Lia Thomas' who was well in the last of his ranks in swimming competitions, Bridges was actually one of the fastest male racers coming in 43 out of 45 in the 'Elite Men's Criterium' at the Loughborough Cycling Festival in the U.K.
What caught my attention with this one - as admittedly I don't follow any kind of athletic sports events - was that the UCI received tremendous backlash from female athletes, stating this is an issue with inclusion over transgendered athletes. I don't know about you but I keep knocking my head on the wall. Do women just want to wipe themselves off the face of the earth? A first place male cyclist would surely leave these upset female athletes in the dust.
Admittedly, I believe this will soon change for the U.K. It's a small win, but a current win none the less. You would think that female athletes would want to preserve what they have worked so hard for instead of just letting men take over their leagues. Culture has really done it's job in making it known that men can be better at being a woman, then they can.
