It’s been a long couple months for this Christian Halo writer. Born Canadian to two American parents, I have been blessed with the opportunity to have a transmission of citizenship to myself. Which means that since both my parents are American, and I was born ‘abroad’ I have a right to obtain U.S. citizenship through them. I made the decision to take advanatge of this God given opportunity upon spending 6 months in the States this past summer, for the contrast between the two neighbouring countries astounded me.
I am born and raised in Ontario, Canada. I spent 6 months in Michigan, a hop, skip and a jump from my Canadian city. In fact, I could see my home country clearly from across the lake. While I was sitting in restaurants filled with people who were mask-less, my fellow Canadians a couple hours away were being forced with mask mandates, capacity policies and awaiting the implementation of QR Codes for their vaccination record in order to just step into a restaurant or any kind of other community venue; i.e. sporting arenas, community centers, churches, funeral homes. Even now as Ontario has provincially scrapped mask mandates, they are allowing Unions, small businesses, and large community venues to make the decision for themselves if they want to keep vaccine passports. Corporations like GM (General Motors) their Union has decided to keep proof of vaccination as a requirement to work along with community halls and venues; those who are planning a wedding can choose a venue that will only allow vaccinated guests to attend. Meanwhile, the United States is fighting to the death to preserve their constitution and freedom so this doesn’t happen.
But that’s not even the tip of the ice burg for the Canucks. Canadians are no longer allowed to travel domestically by plane, train or bus within their own country without being vaccinated. As well as international travel, a Canadian cannot leave an international airport within the country without proof of vaccination.

To throw the cherry on top of a perfectly constructed Dictatorship. Our Federal Government has also made it a requirement to have proof of vaccination to apply for a Canadian Passport. Believe it or not, most Canadians don’t even realize this! Whenever I tell people here what the travel requirments are, they are floored - everything is being done behind the scenes. Unvaccinated Canadians are literally stuck with nowhere to flee. What upsets me the most is I rarely see this being discussed as a concern and I do not see these policies changing anytime soon in the near future.
Blessed and grateful is an understatement for my situation. Although in a lot of ways the United States is beginning to go under (and quickly at that), I’d rather fight the good fight till the bitter end than unknowingly give up my rights for comfort like most Canadian citizens do. The Canadian government may be trying to give the illusion that we are free but it is anything but.
