I remember scrolling through social media late one night and coming across a specific post from a woman I have followed for years. A post I did not expect and a caption that made my head spin. Most of the posts I scrolled through held those captivating ‘words of wisdom’ that rendered you to that thought provoking idea of being able to manifest your own reality, words of affirmation, self-healing, crystal meditation and divination. Posts that affirmed we are an extension of God and therefore have the power and ability to create whatever we wanted for ourselves. Posts that reveled in this idea that as humans, we are these multi-dimensional souls that are capable of vibrating to a higher state of being, evolving into this god-like persona where we can accumulate this endless form of ‘light knowledge’, all we had to do is tap into our higher-dimensional guides, our ‘angels’, meditate and chase what are our past lives could have been. By doing so we can better understand who we are now, how we came to be and what we could become.

The post that had stopped me, made my stomach drop and had me turning on my bed side lamp was of the name JESUS, written in fiery script and was posted by a fellow new age woman who practiced and spoke highly of the witchcraft she routinely performed in her daily life. I sat up right and scrolled through the long caption. In a nutshell, she explained how one night she had extreme sleep paralysis and a demon had crept up her bed and yelled in her face. She was so terrified that she started thinking, then eventually was able to speak out loud “Jesus is real” repeatedly. Her post went onto say how easily deceived we all are and how plagued we are with demons. That Jesus is and has always been the only way. That we are nothing but sinners and we need to take extreme responsibility for what we have brought into our lives and repent, because we cannot save ourselves, only Jesus can.

At the time I was absolutely offended, looking back now I realize how true that conviction was and I felt It throughout every bone in my body, it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up in a way I had never felt before. Surely this woman was losing it. What kind of dark magic and entities was she channeling? Who did she bring into her life that brought such a strong demonic force? It is what you make it out to be, so how did she not just stand in her power of love and light and tell that demon to go? After all,… we are an extension of ‘source’ aren’t we?

It is absolutely remarkable the work Christ does on one’s mind, body and soul when you devote and give your whole life over to Him. You’re capable of looking back and being able to pinpoint exactly the moments when the Lord was convicting you of your sins and discretions. It’s this feeling of defensiveness, shame, guilt. When I first started falling into New Age beliefs and thought forms, the first thing I was taught is that guilt and shame were two of the lowest frequencies you can be in and anything that causes you to feel that way is toxic and should be removed from your life. But think of it this way; when you were a child and you did something you weren’t supposed too and your parent had to correct you, do you remember feeling that shame and guilt of ‘oh crap, I shouldn’t have done this’. Even though we felt shame for our actions, it was the actions of our parents loving us enough to correct our mistakes and tell us what we did was wrong. The conviction I felt was Jesus loving me enough to tell me what I was in, was not of Him, but of Satan.

‘If a person turns to mediums and necromancers, whoring after them, I will set my face against that person and cut him off from among his people. Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy, for I am the Lord your God’ - Leviticus 20 :6-7 ESV

That’s the thing about New Age, it pulls you so deeply into this egotistical way of life that diverts your focus from God to self, completely turning away from any mention of Jesus Christ. Who wants to listen to their Father and obey his rules their whole life? New Age teaches you that your powerful enough to decide what’s dark and what’s light. What’s right and what’s wrong based off what works for you. If something makes you feel low, then that’s negative but if something lifts you and makes you happy, that’s a higher frequency you want to maintain. With this idea, you are also given tools to work with that can help you create this higher state of living for yourself and help you manifest what you want. Tools such as tarot, divination, crystals, essential oils, Eastern meditation, chakra cleansing, astrology, yoga and many more. New Agers have always seen Christianity as holding dogmatic rules, but as you can understand they have their own rules on what makes a person ‘enlightened’. Except these rules differ in the sense that it is always about ones own personal truth. Not Gods truth.

‘When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord’ - Deuteronomy 18: 9-12 ESV

I remember being taught positive affirmation techniques, the belief that your words create your reality, many twisting this idea that we could ask God to give us whatever we wanted so as long as we spoke it aloud and stood in our power with it. Because we were extensions of God of the ‘source of the universe’. Once again, another falsehood for we know God is completely sovereign. We do not tell God to do anything.

‘For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together’ - Colossians 1:16-17 ESV

The city I grew up in had this little bookshop that was nestled on the first floor of this renovated Victorian aged home. It used to be my most favourite place, walking in and smelling the cedar incense, touching crystals and picking out which oracle decks I wanted to work with next. I was a big fan of Doreen Virtues Angel Cards (a very famous New Ager who herself flew into the arms of Christ and became a re-born again Christian). I had believed that if I used divination tools that perceived to be light filled and loving that they were not the work of Satan, that they held absolutely no connection to demons and darkness. I believed that I could speak to my ‘Angelic Guides’ through these tools. It was not until later on had I learnt that only God Himself sent Angels and very rarely He did. They were not these perfect humanistic beings; for as we see in the book of Ezekiel, they can sometimes be described as something creaturous and almost frightening.

‘As for the likeness of their faces, each had a human face. The four had the face of a lion on the right side, the four had the face of an ox on the left side, and the four had the face of an eagle. Such were the faces. And their wings were spread out above. Each creature had two wings, each of which touched the wing of another, while two covered their bodies’ - Ezekiel 1:10-11 ESV

Some even described as these giant majestic looking wheels with eyes all over them. Not at all what you would see illustrated on New Age divination cards.

‘And their rims were tall and awesome, and the rims of all four were full of eyes all around. And when the living creatures went, the wheels went beside them; and when the living creatures rose from the earth, the wheels rose’ - Ezekiel 1:18-19 ESV

Truth be told, there is so much to be said on the never-ending deceit that Satan has targeted on humans through New Age wisdom and With Craft. I feel as someone who has lived through this experience and who has first-handedly bought into this way of living, I owe it to God to help expose this evil. Leaving behind these ideologies is something I never thought would happen, but Christ truly saved me. Being able to objectively look back at who I was, I was never truly at peace. I was continuously trying to put myself on a pedestal, striving to achieve this enlightened way of being, pouring money and time into tools that only made me vulnerable to darkness I was working so hard to be set apart from. Baptist Preacher, Charles Haddon Spurgeon stated

‘Depend upon it, you will either serve Satan or Christ, either self or Saviour’

The truth of that statement is pivotal. You cannot draw nearer to God through idolizing tools to help you. You are not the creator of your own reality, you are part of Gods creation and He is the Creator. And you most certainly cannot bend His word and believe in your own salvation. It is through Jesus Christ or nothing at all.

‘I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me” - John 14:6 ESV
