I was driving around aimlessly, I found my way onto Baldwin road. Baldwin is a main Street that branches off onto other streets of beautiful subdivisions, works it’s way down to a huge outlet mall called Great Lakes Crossing. I couldn’t help but marvel looking upon all the giant houses that are borderline mansions, of course the first thing that pops in my head is "wow I wish I could have something like that", which lead me to think of the ultimate question. Why? Why do we feel we need the “finer things” of this world to feel successful? As I was pondering the question a beautiful song popped on Pandora by Brandon Heath, called “He Paid It All”.
As I was listening to the song I couldn’t help but feel nothing less of selfish and spoiled. It's not about what we can get during this life, it’s all about what we can give! Jesus gave his life for me and you. Looking at Jesus’s sacrifice we all are nothing less than blessed to even just be alive to worship him and be promised entrance to the kingdom of heaven, after we take our final breath on earth, and our first in eternal salvation.
“My Lord, What shall I give him today? He wants my heart, more than he asks for my wage. One day I’ll die, It wont be my last day. When I look in his eyes, I’ll know that I did ok.” – Brandon Heath, He Paid it All
God does not judge or look upon us any differently based on what materials we have gained on earth, instead God looks into our heart and sees our actions. We cannot take our cars, bank accounts, and houses with us when we pass. We are on this earth to give glory to God, to spread his word, and bring as many others as we can to salvation with us. We are all selfish beings and we all need to stop complaining about what we don’t have. We should stop asking God of what we want over and over, instead we should ask what we can give him every single day. God already knows what you want but more importantly what you need. Those are two very different things.
“Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” – Matthew 6:8
We are loved so much by our God that he has given everything for us. This life we live is nothing but a blink compared to what we have in store. Let us use this blink to make a difference, not by your wealth status but by taking time to do Gods work.
